Definition web: Histamine

Histamine is released from mast cells as part of an allergic reaction in humans. Histamine stimulates gastric secretion, and results in gastric secretion, capillary dilation, constriction of bronchial smooth muscle, and decreased blood pressure. Antihistamines serve to neutralize this substance.
